From 1st January 2023 EU SDSs are required to meet the requirements of EU 2020/878 which updates the information requirements for each section of the SDS.

The following are examples on new information requirements:

  1. More detail is required with regard to National and Union occupational exposure limits and information on adverse health effects caused by endocrine disrupting properties shall be provided, where available, for the substances identified as having endocrine disrupting properties in Subsection 2.3.
  2. This information shall consist of brief summaries of the information derived from application of the assessment criteria laid down in the corresponding Regulations ((EC) No 1907/2006, (EU) 2017/2100, (EU) 2018/605), that is relevant to assess endocrine disrupting properties for human health.

EU-wide enforcement of safety data sheets launched

National enforcement authorities have started inspecting the compliance of safety data sheets for chemicals sold on the EU market. Checking safety data sheets was agreed by ECHA’s Enforcement Forum as this year’s harmonised enforcement project (REF-11).

The main objective is to assess whether duty holders have updated and provided safety data sheets according to the new requirements of Annex II to REACH. (EC) 2020/878

The operational phase for this project continues throughout 2023 and the results will be reported in 2024.
