This review, led by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, is seeking data on substances such as imidacloprid and fipronil, including how they enter the environment and what effects they may have. There is growing evidence that these compounds are being detected in UK surface waters, potentially linked to wastewater pathways and pet use. At the same time, these products play an important role in protecting animal health and welfare, and continued access remains a key consideration in the review. What’s clear is that the risks are not yet fully understood. Monitoring data, exposure pathways, and ecological effects are still being actively investigated, and the current evidence base is evolving. This makes the call for evidence particularly important. It’s an opportunity to bring together perspectives from across industry, academia, regulators and environmental stakeholders to ensure decisions are grounded in robust science and a balanced understanding of both environmental and animal health considerations.
