CEA acts as the applicant for food enzyme dossiers, preparing and submitting applications for EFSA to review on behalf of our clients. In this context and more broadly, EFSA has made a valuable improvement in helping users navigate its guidance framework more effectively.
EFSA has introduced a new Catalogue of EFSA Guidance Documents that consolidates all EFSA guidance in a single, searchable repository. A particularly useful feature is the catalogue’s clear indication of each document’s current status – whether it remains valid, is being phased out and applies only to applications submitted before a specific deadline or has been retired completely. For those preparing EFSA submissions, this clarity is significant, as the timing of an application can dictate which guidance requirements are applicable.
EFSA has also revised its approach to defining and categorising guidance documents. The guidance is now organised into five distinct categories according to their purpose, scope, content, and issuing authority: cross-cutting guidance, sector-specific guidance, guidance on data standards, guidance for data submissions, and administrative guidance. This new classification framework provides both applicants and risk assessors with a more intuitive structure for determining how each document should be applied.
