Our in-house taxonomy specialists enable us to classify and count freshwater organisms to the highest level of accuracy. We categorise organisms from mesocosms, microcosms and laboratory studies, including ongoing monitoring or one-off sample analysis.
Our freshwater taxonomists have the capability to catalogue
- macroinvertebrates
- macrophytes
- phytoplankton and periphyton
- zooplankton.
We can identify organisms to genus level and in some cases species level. Using our high level of taxonomic expertise, we identify and count tests from our mesocosm and laboratory results and offer sample identification and enumeration for third-party studies.

- Our in-house GLP mesocosm facility enables us to run large-scale herbicide studies where we have the capacity to set up, sample, identify and count macrophyte, zooplankton, phytoplankton and periphyton examples. Our well-developed sampling and enumerating techniques offer high standard data sets to gain the most ecologically relevant data for your risk assessment needs.
- We have supported third party organisations to process, identify and enumerate zooplankton and phytoplankton samples to GLP standards.
- We have used our expertise to help identify nuisance algae and algal blooms and provide a species description and biological understanding to help companies determine the best course of treatment.
