Environmental modelling and risk assessment

Abdul is an Associate Technical Director at CEA. With over 25 years of professional expertise and experience in environmental exposure modelling and regulatory risk assessment needed to demonstrate safety of chemical products on the EU and global market, including application of standard and higher tier approaches, development of sustainability solutions and regulatory compliance strategies for a broad range of active substances portfolios, his technical expertise includes: 

• Extensive experience in exposure modelling and regulatory risk assessment for plant protection products ((EC) No. 1107/2009); biocides ((EU) No. 528/2012, BPR); industrial chemicals ((EC) No. 1907/2006, REACH). 

• Experience in the use of environmental modelling software tools for the EU, Member States and USEPA FIFRA and TSCA, including a working knowledge of associated regulatory and technical guidance documents. 

• Experience in the degradation kinetics analyses of laboratory soil, water-sediment and field dissipation studies for parent active substances and complex metabolite schemes to derive regulatory endpoints according to FOCUS, EFSA and USEPA (NAFTA) guidance. 

• Organisation and delivery of degradation kinetics analyses, exposure modelling, as well as regulatory risk assessment training for industry, regulators and CROs. 

Over the past 25 years, Abdul has applied these technical skills to deliver numerous complex projects for the chemical industry, EU and Member States Regulatory Authorities, government agencies and commercial clients. He also has very broad experience in regulatory advocacies and has been involved in projects for development of guidance and regulatory policy initiatives in the EU. Since joining CEA, Abdul has been a trusted technical expert to several industry, Contract Research Organisations, and commercial clients.
